Kulanu
In the shul we have a Kulanu group ("כולנו" is the Hebrew word meaning “all of us”), to support the shul in being welcoming, safe, inclusive, and accessible to all. We aim to further inclusion, particularly for those who traditionally may have felt excluded or face barriers to inclusion. Kulanu proactively monitors how we do things as a community in relation to inclusion, supports and educates the community on ways to be more inclusive, promotes the wonderful rich diversity of Jews everywhere and is a place to go for members/friends who may be worried or need support on any issues to do with being included.
Our work includes producing accessible introductory guides to services, leading celebratory and awareness-raising Shabbat services, for example for Mental Health Awareness Week, promoting venue accessibility and publicising information on access, supporting individuals to overcome specific barriers such as cost or transport, meeting up with new or potential new members, and welcoming new people at events.
We meet roughly once a month; we welcome comments and contributions. If you would like to know more about the work of Kulanu, please contact kulanu@shef-ref.co.uk.
